FRANCE : Death penalty: Louis Aliot invokes Badinter for his recovery

MEP FN relies on the statements of Manuel Valls on the fact that France is at war against terrorism to justify restoring the death penalty.

The discussion on the return of the death penalty is a growing number of followers in the context of terrorist threat. One of the last frame dated to demand his return is none other than the Vice President of the National Front, Louis Aliot.

In a message on Facebook late last week and identified by the Opinion, the companion Marine Le Pen quote Robert Badinter, the Minister of Justice responsible for the abolition of capital punishment in 1981, to justify the return of such conviction. "Valls and Hollande say that the country is at war, so the debate on the recovery part of the death penalty, in the event, is perfectly legitimate. We are indeed many to believe the ... "argues Louis Aliot.

To support his point, Louis Aliot refers to an extract from the speech by Robert Badinter 17 September 1981. "It appeared to the Government that it was unwelcome, when you finally decide to abolition in France in peace which fortunately ours, discuss possible domain of the death penalty in time of war, a war that nothing happily announces. This will be the Government and Parliament of the time of the test, if it is survenir- it will be up to provide for it, the same time as many special provisions with respect to any war legislation "had estimated the first Justice Minister François Mitterrand.

"France is at war," this is indeed the heart of the speeches hammered by Prime Minister Manuel Valls after the terrorist attacks in January and November 2015, a position recently repeated following the Brussels attacks.

Others, among Republicans, discussed the return of the death penalty for terrorists before Louis Aliot. Reacting to the recent tragedy that has bloodied Brussels Xavier Bertrand had said on March 24 that he would not have voted to abolish the death penalty in 1981, if he could vote.

The next day, Olivier Dassault MP went further by claiming the restoration of capital punishment in a statement, taking the spirit of a bill he had introduced in 2004 and was then supported by 40 deputies right. Other executives of the Rue Vaugirard, as Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet and Nadine Morano, preferred to advocate for the establishment of a life sentence "real and incompressible."

A referendum promised in case of victory in 2017

The restoration of the death penalty is a matter of debate in the National Front, only party in its program possible recovery at the end of a referendum. Several frameworks of Marine Le Pen's party as Florian Philippot, Marion Maréchal-Le Pen or the deputy of the Rassemblement Bleu Marine (RBM) Gilbert Collard voted against this option. "If tomorrow Marine Le Pen made a referendum on the restoration of the death penalty, I will call to vote against" particular had said the lawyer, guest of the program C Policy on France 5 April 20, 2014.

Conversely, March 13, 2015, Marine Le Pen explained his support for the death penalty. "I, personally, as a lawyer (...) I think a penal system can not stand without the death penalty," she had told Europe 1. "I think the disappearance of punishment death had the effect, in fact, collapse of the entire range of penalties and today we are left with misdemeanors or even crimes that I consider very serious and are sentenced to unworthy in relation to the suffering they have created in the victim "had yet seen the presidential candidate.

On November 20, Jean-Marie Le Pen, honorary president of the FN rejected his party had advocated death by beheading for the perpetrators of terrorist acts.
